    Eigenvectors and Eigenvalues

I’ve read this and the PRM Handbook and still not clear on how to calculate the eigenvalues.

    For example,
    0 -1 2 = -1
    1 0 1 2
How does the math work, if I so a sumproduct going acrodd I get -2 and 1, not -1 and two.

Also, how would questions be asked, would they ask you to calculate the eigenvector (2,1) in the example above. If so, how do you back into this?

Also, in this tutorial, it says “when the dot product of the two units is zero, the vectors are overlapping”. Should this say when the dot product is “one”? The first example when the COS(90 degrees)= 0, they are perpendicular or orthogonal.

    Thanks

The topic is difficult to grasp. To overcome this, I had bought a book about matrices and linear equations and it helped me a lot. I recommend to do the same.
