Hello,
It has been about 3 months since I attained the certification and I would just like to give an update on what it has been like.
Firstly, the certificate came to me in a SLIGHTLY damaged state due to the weather. The support service responded immediately and sent me one in a water-proof envelope (neat!)
I feel proud calling myself a PRM holder. Also, I recently decided to get the FRM designation. (I know it is partially redundant here but I have a lot of free time). The best part is that holding PRM helped me attain the FRM scholarship. The scholarship granted me pardond me from the examination fee of part 1 of the FRM program.
The designation itself got a positive response from universities that I will be applying to soon.
Good luck to everyone who is working towards it. Trust me, it’s worth it!
If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

November 17, 2011 at 12:18 am #638AnonymousGuestcongrate! can you share how you prepare for this prm?
how many times you go through the handbook, which part is important?November 17, 2011 at 9:16 am #639AnonymousGuestPreparation is not too difficult.
As the website clearly says, the handbook is the holy grail of PRM. As long as you fully understand it, you will pass.
When I gave the 4 exams, I had NO prior experience in finance. I didn’t even know what a stock was. If you are in a similar position, I would suggest reading a little about Finance before going through the handbook.
The only problem with the handbook is that it assumes you know quite a bit. Thus, the material is condensed. The book should actually be twice the size.
Still, I used the following game plan:
1) Read through the handbook thoroughly and made notes (20 days before the exam).
2) Reread the handbook without taking notes(10 days before the exam).
3) Went through the syllabus LOS by LOS from the candidate guide.(5 days before the exam)
4) Used riskprep to solve all questions of that particular exam. (3 days before the exam)
5) Reread my problem areas based on where I performed the weakest. (1-2 days before the exam)
6) Solve the questions at the back of the PRM candidate guide to be sure I got everything covered.I was on a vacation when I gave it and thus, I could dedicate 10-12 hours a day to it. I think 150 hours per exam (excluding forth) is pretty okay. I got around 80%~ average across the 4 exams.
Good luck!
November 17, 2011 at 2:53 pm #640AnonymousGuestHi,
Congratulations for your success as a PRM candidate. I have a question regarding the following point : “successful candidates become a Professional Risk Manager, or PRM, and will have a limited license to use the PRMIA Professional Risk Manager insignia on business cards, resumes and CV’s.”
I don’t understand what “limited license” means : does it mean you have to make a special request or to pay a fee to use the “PRM” extension on your resume or public profile on professional networks ? Or does it recalls that this advantage is limited to PRM successful candidates ?November 17, 2011 at 2:57 pm #641AnonymousGuestthanks for you advice, is that mean you prepare all 4 exams in around 1 month period?
i have just purchased my handbook will start the preparation next week.
November 17, 2011 at 3:27 pm #642AnonymousGuestkzg,
The limited is just a legal terms. Yes, it partially means that only successful PRM candidates can use the insignia. It also means that you are not allowed to manipulate the initials. Into something like FCPRM (first class PRM) or something.
Don’t worry about it, you don’t have to pay any annual fees for using the insignia next to your name unlike other certifications. As soon as you are declared passed for all 4 exams, you are officially a PRM holder.
n3lson,
I took about 45 days to prepare and give all 4 exams. There was a slight problem with the test center when I gave the first exam (it didn’t exist!). Took 15 days on average for the first 3 exams and a weekend for level 4
November 17, 2011 at 10:06 pm #643AnonymousGuestOk thanks. By the way I just received my results (i.e. 6 days after the exam) and I am proud to announce that I validated the 4 exams at once
As to answer n3ls0n and to complete ForsakenLegacy answer : I’d say I spent almost 4 weeks preparing these 4 exams (*), first reading the handbook very carefully, then using RiskPrep trying to answer all questions and check which parts of the program where not perfectly clear to me (in that case, I reread the handbook) and last but not least, trying to help and answer other contributors in this forum (since I’ve always considered that you really know something when you are capable to explain it clearly to someone else).
(*) I have a strong mathematical background so I spent very little time on the exam II, I understand it might be much more time consuming to someone who is less familiar with mathematics.
November 22, 2011 at 3:01 pm #644AnonymousGuestPlease, describe how did you attain the FRM scholarship?
November 22, 2011 at 8:37 pm #645AnonymousGuestIn order to be awarded the scholarship, you have to send a written application to GARP. You must be a full time student or a full time faculty. You will need to provide a recommendation letter and proof of studentship.
The details are posted on the garp website. I believe the next round begins in December.
This scholarship covers the examination fee of part 1 only.
Good luck.
December 8, 2011 at 5:59 am #646AnonymousGuestHi I am new here and am preparing for Associate PRM exams. I see there are many experienced practitioners of RM here would love to hear from you guys on APRM and whether it opens up more career opportunities. I am definitely interested to do the PRM exams after the APRM.
Also, is APRM holders allowed to list this certification on their namecards?
December 8, 2011 at 11:28 am #647AnonymousGuestI think that complete PRM is better than APRM. So try to pass the complete program.
December 21, 2011 at 2:21 am #648AnonymousGuestyesterday just take exam 2 and exam 4.
