    Hello Friends

I passed exam 1 last month. Thanks to risprep and all the fellow mates for helping to resolve my queries. Now I am at the brink of starting the preparation for Exam 2 i.e Maths.

Just wanted to know from fellow mates what is the best way to prepare , though I have a mathematics background but lately have been away from any kind of real practice. Is the PRM book enough to grasp the content or should I dust off high school and college books too for practice? Do the exam questions focus more on calculation or spplication of formulae??

Let me know your thoughts, any other suggestions are welcome.

    Cheers

    hi

the level of exam was not too difficult, if the concepts are crystal clear you should be able to get through.Th handbook is sufficient but you need to go through the handbook quite religiously, just skimming through wont help. Also for certain topics if the content in handbook does not seem to be digestible at once , there is harm in googling.

I wont say the questions were similar to riskprep but riskprep questions would help you prepare well for the exam.so practice them religiously.

    All the best

    Hi Harsh

Can you elaborate what exactly do you mean by ‘theory part in questions’ when you say ‘i am preparing for Exam 2 which seems easy to me but the theory part in which questions need to solve putting me into trobule’?

    Thanks

Hi RingFence,I will suggest you dust off your high school and college maths text books,I am currently preparing for Exam 2 as well, passed exam one two weeks ago. Also try using Schaum series for examples and more explanations.
    Hope this helps

Thanks so much. But then again not sure to what depth should I study the topics even from college or high school books.some aspects of the selected may not be applicable for PRM.

Its good that you also are preparing for exam 2 , lets be in touch.May be this would help both of us. what say?

I usually look up each topic using the PRM self study exam guide…

    Hi,

Can you please throw some light on the minimum number of questions which need to be correct for clearing paper 2?

    Regards
    Shirish.

You need to score 60% – and given that there are 24 questions in all, you need to get about 15 right. Roughly. That is because it is my guess that all questions are not equal (how else do you explain people getting, say, an 88% score on an exam with 24 questions).

    Hi everyone
I am also studying for Exam 2 and prep is going well, but when I did the risk prep questions for Exam 2, there were a lot of questions about Greeks. I have not done Exam 1 yet, but found that the topic is covered in the Financial Theory book for Exam 1 rather than in the Maths book. Will detailed Greeks questions come up in Exam 2?
    Many Thanks!

    Hi EMC

Good to know that you are also preparing for exam 2. Kindly suggest what references are you looking into apart form PRM guide.I am not able to decide how much time to spend outside the prm handbook. SHould we be practising a lot many questions for topics say calculus , matrices , probability etc or only the concepts would do say for example convexity is the second derivative .

Not sure about your question on GReeks , yes it was covered in exam 1 but not in much detail.may be someone else can throw light on this.

    Hi RingFence

In addition to the PRM handbook, I am using my books from university, I did an MSc in Economics and have one book called fundamental methods of mathematical economics, that book covers everything in detail from linear algebra to probability and optimisation. I also read some of my older IMC books as a refresher. I am also using the PRMIA diagnostic exams on their website and some of the questions there are definitely not covered in the maths handbook eg they ask you to calculate the adjoint of a matrix which I had to google to find out how to do it. So I would recommend to use different sources and definitely do the calculations rather than just learn the concepts.

My question around the Greeks was more around whether they will also come up in Exam 2, because they are not in the Exam 2 book and I have not studied them yet, but in the riskprep questions for exam 2 there are a lot of questions on Greeks.

Hope someone knows more about this?

    Thanks

    Sure :-)

I’ve got my exam booked for the 18th of September! When are you planning to do yours?

I would also do a formula summary – starting that at the moment and it’s quite helpful.
